Interview Summary
The assistant Director of Manpower Center Youth Program graduated from Kentucky State University and the University of Kentucky, receiving a master's degree in social work. Mr. Wigginton discusses African American participation in Lexington politics and his involvement in improving conditions for African Americans in the area. Recalling his unsuccessful campaign for a seat on the city council, Mr. Wigginton talks about the experience of losing an election by only 17 votes while struggling against the "established power structure." Problems still faced by elected African American officials and the changing political climate are also detailed.Interview Accession
