Interview Summary
Joseph Magliocco is the president of Michter's Distillery. In this interview he discusses his family and educational background. He talks about beginning his career in the spirits industry as a bartender and salesman. He talks about beginning a new whiskey company after graduating from law school, and why they chose to revive the Michter's name. He talks about challenges in the industry, including the market downturn for whiskey during the 1980s. He talks about Kentucky as the preferred location for making bourbon and the benefits of making bourbon in Kentucky. He talks about the bourbon making process, and the importance of having a knowledgeable master distiller. He talks about the current resurgence in the bourbon market and the popularity of bourbon tourism.
