Served in the United States Navy as an Electrician First Class; served on board the destroyer USS Cassin-- the destroyer Balch and the (Quarterfield?); describes the bombing of Pearl Harbor - Japanese airplanes attacking-- abandoning the Cassin-- destruction on Battleship Row; describes the Battle of Midway-- screening the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise-- the sinking of the destroyer USS Hammann and the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown-- rescuing the survivors of the Hammann and Yorktown.
