Interview Summary
Wilson Wyatt first shares his thoughts on Fred Vinson's appointment as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and discusses Justice Stanley Reed and Congressman Thruston Morton. Mr. Wyatt discusses Happy Chandler's leaving the Senate in 1946 to take up the position of Baseball Commissioner, and John Sherman Cooper's filling the vacant Senate seat. Mr. Wyatt discusses his re-establishment of his law practice in Louisville, Kentucky in partnership with Arthur Grafton, working for such clients as Beardsley Ruml and the news companies of Barry Bingham. Mr. Wyatt describes his serving as Chairman of Americans for Democratic Action in 1948, as well as his appearances in Congress related to his work for Beardsley Ruml. After further discussing his law practice, Mr. Wyatt discusses Governor Earle Clements (in office 1947-1950) and Lieutenant Governor Lawrence Wetherby, and finally he discusses the nomination of Alben Barkley for Vice President on the Democratic ticket in the 1949 presidential election.Interview Accession
