Interview Summary

Harold Freeman (Eritrea, 1965-1967; Education Program) tells how he joined the Peace Corps from Tennessee and afterwards spent much of his adult career as a journalist with the Louisville Courier Journal. His interview includes details on training, particularly language training, and also selection. He provides full descriptions of physical acclimation, teaching math and science, living situation, and recreation, including climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. Besides stories of his Peace Corps experience, Freeman tells about his Vietnam military tour. He concludes with reflections on the impact of Peace Corps, both personal and general.
