Project: Partition's First Generation Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Ziley Nizami, a Pakistani engineer, begins the interview by discussing his early life in India, in the pre-partition era. Topics of conversation include his childhood, education, and brief career in the military. Following this, changes made to Aligarh Muslim University during partition times are examined, as well as the impact of this event upon Nizami and his family. The interviewee then briefly talks of his career as an engineer, his own involvement in the partition movement, and notable speakers at the university during this time. Next, Nizami details his move to Pakistan, and the reactions of his family. The growth of education in Pakistan in relation to Aligarh Muslim University is also explored. Additionally, Nizami's own experience with the partition is shared, coupled with a short comparison between the lives of Muslims in India and Pakistan. The vision of the founders of Pakistan and the nation today is then assessed. Finally, the interviewee speculates upon when the history of Pakistan began, describes his upcoming book, and the contributions of Aligarh Muslim University to society as a whole.Interview Accession
