Interview Summary

William O. DeWitt, Senior, was formerly the owner of the St. Louis Browns and the Cincinnati Reds at different times in his career. In this interview, he talks about his involvement in baseball, especially during the time of Happy Chandler's commissionership in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Topics include the impact that the Mexican League had on American baseball of that era, the integration of major league baseball, Chandler's commissionship, why his (Chandler's) contract was bought out early, and many of the other baseball team owners whom he knew at that time.
