Interview Summary
This is the second of two interviews with Geneva Hawkins. It also includes her husband, Robert. They discuss the state of medical care, including how they relied on home remedies instead of official doctors. They discuss deaths, wakes, and funeral rites among the African American community. She discusses how people came about owning their properties. They discuss the transition from enslavement to freedom, as well as the experience of segregation. They discuss the importance of religion to the family. They delve into food habits and recreation as well.Interview Accession
