Interview with Maud Sloan, July 8, 1987
Project: Remembering the Vote and Much More Oral History Project
Interview Summary
With lots of humor, Maud Sloan talks about life on the farm. Her mother died when she was young. Maud didn't have any memories of what it was like when women got the vote in 1920. She talks quite a bit about men getting drunk on whiskey on voting day, and the selling of votes. During her lifetime, she had a number of jobs, including driving a coal truck for family deliveries; though she thought women should stay in the home and take care of the family. Her mother had managed the family farm after Maud's father died. Maud also shares her memories of the 1917 flood that washed through their farm.Interview Accession
