Interview Summary

This interview was conducted in the fall of 2019 with Emily Lyden, Director of Operations with UK's Swimming and Diving department and wife of former diving coach Mike Lyden who passed in 2008 at the age of 51 after an extended illness. She reflects on her husband's accomplishments as a coach, his coaching style, and how he enhanced the program at the University of Kentucky.

During Mike Lyden's tenure at UK (1993-2008), he coached 12 Wildcats and earned 51 All-America selections. In 1996 he was named NCAA Women's Diving Coach of the Year and he was also named the SEC Diving Coach of the Year nine times in his career, including three consecutive seasons form 2005-07 at Kentucky. In addition to coaching, Lyden was a member of the U.S. Diving Rules Committee, the U.S. Olympic International Diving Committee and a member of U.S. Diving.
