Interview Summary

This is a 1987 presentation by five Presidents of the Rural Sociological Society in Lou Swanson?s ?Sociology of Rural Sociology? course at the University of Kentucky. Howard W. beers (1951-1952); A. Lee Coleman (1964-1965); Thomas R. Ford (1972-1973); James A. Christenson (1986-1987); C. Milton Coughenour (1982-1983). The interview is primarily focused around Milt Coughenour discussing how he got into rural sociology and the nature of his research over the years.

Lou Swanson joined the faculty of the Department of Sociology at the University of Kentucky in 1982 where he worked for 15 years. In 1997, he left for Colorado State University where he worked in department, college, and university administrative positions. Like those he had on the panel in 1987, he also went on to serve as President of the Rural Sociological Society (1999-2000).
