Interview Summary

Guy Mendes grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated from Fortier High School in 1966. He began working for the student newspaper the Kentucky Kernel as a sports reporter and rose to become managing editor in 1969 before being bypassed in 1969 for the editorship because of his anti-draft and anti-war activism on campus. He co-founded an off-campus student newspaper the blue-tail fly in the summer of 1969 and graduated with a degree in English in 1970. In this interview he discusses his experiences on campus in 1966.
