Interview Summary
Mubarak Zuberi, an alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University, begins the interview by describing the unique attributes of the university. Following this, Zuberi examines his early life and education. A discussion of Ziauddin Ahmad is then initiated. Discrimination in its various forms in Pakistan and the United States are highlighted. Student movements before the partition in Aligarh are also mentioned. Subsequently, Ahmad's and Zuberi's reactions to the partition are revealed, as well as the Partition of Pakistan itself into Bangladesh. The topic of Aligarh is reiterated, along with a small discussion concerning the All-India Muslim League and Bangladesh. The interviewee's life in Pakistan is compared to his standard of living in India. The role of Islam in American culture is then speculated upon. Relations between Hindus and Muslims prior to the partition are assessed, paired with an analysis of the cultures of both India and Pakistan. Finally, the United States and Pakistani cultures are compared, as well as a discussion on whom the interviewer will speak to next.Interview Accession
