Interview Summary
The Coordinator of the Office of Student Minority Affairs at the University of Kentucky, Mr. Grundy graduated from Male High School and the University of Kentucky (1965-1969). He recalls his childhood in the California neighborhood of Louisville, family history, educational background and his Catholic faith. He remembers the influence a high school guidance counselor had upon his college selection, and meeting Thomas Merton. Mr. Grundy recounts his experiences at the University of Kentucky and the establishment of the Black Student Union and ORGENA. He discusses his experience with the ROTC during the Vietnam War, and James O'Bradovich and the anti-war movement. He remarks upon his work with the Plymouth Settlement House and the Human Rights Commission, his return to the University of Kentucky in the Office of Student Minority Affairs, and Lionel Hamptons' visit in the Spotlight Jazz Concert Series at the University.Interview Accession
