Interview Summary
This interview with 4-H agent Melanie Mays begins with a discussion of Mays' childhood. She talks about her childhood home and what her friends did for recreation. She also talks about what her parents did for a living and how the family obtained water and disposed of trash.Mays then makes suggestions for a cleaner and safer environment, including mandatory trash pick up. She then talks about the ways in which she recycles, as well as the recycling programs available in Bell County (Ky.). Mays talks about the quality of water available when she was growing up, as well as the family?s straight pipe which emptied directly into a nearby creek. She also talks about the solid waste disposal methods available in Eastern Kentucky.
Finally, Mays talks about her involvement with Kentucky 4-H and the organization's collaboration with Eastern Kentucky Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment (PRIDE).
