Interview Summary
Chris Gastinger began working at International Harvester in 1946 and became active in the United Farm Equipment Workers' Union (FE), Local 236, when it was created in 1947. In this interview, Gastinger discusses the FE union; how its leaders had close ties to the Communist Party, the interracial unity found amongst union members and the militancy of the union. He speaks about being fired from Harvester and later working for General Box Company. Gastinger also talks about meeting Carl Braden during a strike and the Bradens' reputation in Louisville after the Wade case.Interview Accession
