Interview Summary

Ken Walker, the retiring Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS) vice president, discusses his childhood in rural Nelson County, Kentucky; his early education; his parents; his summer job at Jim Beam Distillery; his undergraduate and graduate tenures at the University of Kentucky during the early 1970s; his career at what is now the Council on Postsecondary Education; the development of postsecondary education funding models and a demographic database collection system; and the effects of federally mandated desegregation efforts in the early 1980s on postsecondary education and the state budget process. This is the first interview of two.
