Project: Partition's First Generation Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Zahra Haider, the wife of a former Pakistani Army general, begins the interview by reflecting upon her childhood in Lahore (which was then part of India). Next, the interviewee highlights the immigration of her relatives to Pakistan (both before and after the partition). Where Haider's family fell on the political spectrum, along with the impact of political figures upon Pakistan are considered. Following this, the interviewee's husband and her personal identity are examined. Then, her family and their experience with the partition is elaborated upon. Additionally, the formation of the Pakistani community is explored, as well as the changes to Lahore following the partition and how devout Haider is to the Islamic faith.
