Interview Summary
Jerome Siangco served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in China from June 2019 to February 2020, in the Education Program. While studying Asian Studies in college, Jerome interned at the Smithsonian in D.C., and visited Peace Corps Headquarters. He had been volunteering since elementary school and traveled previously to Taiwan and India for academic conferences. He was accepted to serve in China. Training was in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, where he lived with a host family. He was posted in Guizhou Province at Liupanshui Normal University. He taught English to university students, and to faculty and community members after hours. He served on Peace Corps’ Peer Support and Diversity; Safety and Security; and In-Service Training Planning committees. The interview discusses experiences with training, work, his community, and evacuation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also discusses diversity in his cohort, and the reaction and attitude of locals to him being Filipino-American.Interview Accession
