Interview Summary

This interview with Wajahat Hussain begins with a discussion of communalism and the role that religion played in the formation of Pakistan. It then moves on to discuss Islam within the country, including Mahomed Ali Jinnah's vision for Pakistan. There is then a lengthy discussion on the Indian Army, during British rule and then after. Topics addressed include information on communicating with individuals who speak several different languages, uniforms, and the precepts that governed the armed forces. Hussain also discusses the training of military officers. The interview then moves to discuss how the armed forces were impacted by the partition of Pakistan. Hussain also discusses several early leaders of Pakistan, including Mahomed ali Jinnah, Chaudhry Khaliquzzaman, and Liaquat Ali Khan. It ends Hussain talking about Shiites and Sunnite sectarianism in Pakistan.
