Interview Summary

In this interview, Edmond Cubbage talks about his personal experiences before, during, and after his involvement in the Vietnam War. Cubbage grew up in Swampoodle, a close-knit Irish neighborhood in North Philadelphia and in 1965, at nineteen years old, was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in Vietnam. He talks at length about the impact that the war had on him, as well as some of the friends he made while serving. He also discusses the racial tensions of the time, and how they carried into the Vietnam War. He served in Vietnam from 1966-1967 and came back to the states where he met his wife and worked as a truck driver. Most recently, he wrote a book titled Just a Kid from Swampoodle to Vietnam, which tells his stories as well as other soldiers who served at the same time he did.
