Interview Summary
Lancaster discusses Chandler's tenure as a high school coach in the 1930s at Versailles High School. He notes how he refereed for Chandler's football games as a way to earn extra money. Lancaster notes his early impressions of Chandler and his quality of coaching at Versailles. Lancaster discusses the role Happy Chandler played in promoting University of Kentucky athletics while he was governor of Kentucky. He discusses the relationship between Chandler and Adolph Rupp. Lancaster discusses the problems with having Chandler's son, Dan, playing for the University of Kentucky sports teams while he was assistant coach.
