Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Kyle Butcher served as a Community Development sector Volunteer in Peace Corps Macedonia from 2016 to 2018. Prior to Peace Corps, Kyle completed graduate school and worked as a scout in Major League Baseball. Kyle was inspired to serve, in part, by a cousin who served as a Volunteer for Peace Corps Thailand. His training cohort was MAK 21 and his pre-service training in language, culture, and technical skills were conducted in the city of Negotino. Following his swearing in as a Volunteer, Kyle was assigned two work sites in the town of Kriva Palanka near the Bulgarian border. Kyle also engaged in secondary projects in as a mentor for the GLOW Club of Kriva Palanka which provides leadership development and community service project opportunities for high school age girls. He also helped organized and run a week-long annual English-language summer camp for young men. Kyle completed his service and returned to work with Major League Baseball and he began as a sports management adjunct professor at Johnson and Wales University.
