Interview Summary
This interview with audio engineer Irv Joel begins with a discussion of his childhood and background. It then covers his time at National Broadcasting Company (NBC) and his move to Capitol Records. Joel also talks about the advent of stereophonic recording and goes into detail regarding the technology at Capitol Records. He talks about his time there, including a discussion about the clientele with whom he worked, as well as sound mixing.Joel then goes on to talk about recording on location and the extent to which collaboration was allowed between recording studios. He also talks about unions and his move to A&R Recording Studio. Finally, he talks about women in the recording business.
