Interview with Roy Jarecky, March 3, 1986
Project: University of Kentucky Medical Center Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Roy Jarecky (Associate Dean of Admission and Student Personnel, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Co-Dean of Med School, UK, 1961-1971, 1973-unknown) discusses his own personal history, and how he came to be associated with the UKMC. He explores Medical center development and expansion and the changing student teacher relationship. He also explains the delays inherent in attempting to immediately populate a state with doctors. Jarecky points out the distinctive nature of the UKMC, and the gradual segmentation of the MC faculty units into departmental rather than institutionally focus, and the detriment which this change had on the MC in general. Jarecky also discusses the quality of medical students and the selection process which goes into student selection.Interview Accession
