Interview Summary
Tom Martin discusses his early childhood home, hometown, and education. He talks about his experiences at Morehead State University. He talks about how he entered the field of broadcast communications, journalism, and radio. He talks about his passion for the craft, Kentucky, and Appalachia. He talks about his job history at various radio networks, including NPR, ABC, and RKO Radio Network. He discusses his work as a host and his love for Eastern Standard, the NPR network for Kentucky. Martin also discusses how cancer impacted his family, family's business, and himself. He discusses the reasons why cancer rates in Eastern Kentucky are at critical highs and potential ways to mitigate those rates, particularly through young people and acknowledgment of Appalachian and Eastern Kentucky culture.Interview Accession
