Interview Summary
Ms. Dean grew up in central Illinois in a small town in the 1940s and 1950s. She learned to garden from her mother's parents and the father of her stepfather. She had a brief hiatus from gardening in the early years of her marriage because they moved a lot, but since the early 70s, she has made gardens at many of her homes in Jefferson County. Her husband has long been deceased but Ms. Dean continues to live an independent and active life gardening for herself and teaching children , especially those with Downs Syndrome and autism the joys of growing herbs and vegetables.Interview Accession
