Tech. Sgt. Polin served in an all black quartermaster's depot attached to the 3rd Marine Division (Polin was the first African-American Marine from Kentucky-- fifth in the entire nation); served at Guadalcanal-- New Caledonia and Bougainville; discusses training - discrimination against black soldiers-- segregation of the troops; talks about ammunition dump blowing up at New Caledonia-- dead Marines being brought back from the field; mentions "Washboard Charlie" flying over Guadalcanal; talks about racial incidents in Louisiana and North Carolina.Interview Accession
