Interview Summary

James Owens is from Harlan, Kentucky and served in the United States Marine Corps as an Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) Crewman. In this interview, he talks about his upbringing and the factors that influenced his decision to join the Marines. Owens describes his initial training process going through boot camp, Marine Combat Training (MCT), and AAV training. He talks about his deployments to Iraq and some of the training operations he was a part of. Owens then talks about college and his pursuit of a master's degree in social work from the University of Kentucky.
