Interview Summary

Hayfaa Ibrahem Abdulqadar shares her experiences as a refugee who fled from Baghdad, Iraq in 2005, first to Jordan, then to Philadelphia in 2009. She came to Jordan with her husband, Bajhat Abdulwahed, and her adult daughter, who is now a news announcer in Jordan. Both Hayfaa and Bajhat had worked in broadcast journalism in Baghdad. She describes their arrival in Philadelphia and how they got settled with the help of Nationalities Services Center. She recalls her husband’s illness and death. She shares some details from her life in Iraq in the 1960s and '70s, when she worked as a news announcer, was first married, and was a new mother.
