Interview Summary

William Harry Clarke, a Mississippi native, discusses his early education and career that inevitably lead him to arrive at the University of Kentucky. Clarke is the son of a preacher, and he says his early musical influences primarily came from church. He worked as a teaching assistant to his high school band director while he was attending college, and he finished his undergrad within 3 years as a result.

Clarke discusses the challenges he faced upon arriving at the University of Kentucky. He was initially an interim band director, but soon became a permanent faculty member. He also discusses what it was like to work alongside Sara Holroyd, and what his life is like post-retirement.
