Project: Men Of Note Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Vince DiMartino was a professor of trumpet at the University of Kentucky from approximately 1971-1992, and at Centre College from 1993-2012 as distinguished artist-in-residence (Centre's first such post). He has performed worldwide. In this interview he discusses his time playing with the Men of Note, principally from early to mid-1970s. He talks about many of his own trumpet students who had played in the Men of Note from the 1970s through the 1990s. Importantly, he noted the role in musical professional training that a local, often-working, high quality big band like the Men of Note provided for college-age music students, and for the musical, cultural, and recreational life of the community.
