Interview Summary
Born in 1952 in Ethiopia, Gashaw Lake attended school in the capital Addis Ababa and in Eritrea. He came to the U.S. in 1971 and obtained a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy at Saginaw Valley State College in Michigan followed by an M.A. in Public Administration and PhD in Philosophy of Education at the University of Oklahoma, completed in 1981. Prior to coming to Kentucky State University in 1986, he taught at Langston University in Oklahoma. He has been at Kentucky State for 31 years, teaching in the School of Public Administration and serving as Dean of the College of Professional Studies from 1999 to 2015 when he returned to the classroom. He is now writing and publishing poetry in Amharic and in English.Interview Accession
