Interview Summary

Hugh Meriwether attended the University of Louisville and Harvard University before transferring to the University of Kentucky to finish his undergraduate education and earn a masters degree. In this interview he discusses his reasons for coming to UK and his impressions of the school. He talks about majoring in engineering and discusses the difficulty of the program. He describes Dean F. Paul Anderson and other university faculty members, as well as university president Frank McVey.

Meriwether describes the atmosphere at the University of Kentucky during the 1920s, including social activities for students, the importance of Greek organizations, and the role of women at the university. He tells several stories demonstrating students' attitudes and behavior, including several pranks he played on his friends. He discusses the importance of athletics at the university.

Meriwether talks about earning his masters degree and becoming a lecturer at UK on the subject of architecture. He talks about his involvement with the UK Concert and Lecture Series which attracted guests like Judy Garland. He talks about architectural styles at UK, and discusses how the university has changed since his time as a student.
