Interview Summary

Mutter describes life as an outsider moving into the coal mining region. She became a preschool teacher and a librarian in Grundy, Virginia. She describes the cultural socialization of women through wedding showers and baby showers. Mutter explains some of the differences between living in Atlanta and moving to a small coal mining town, including such basic differences as how people communicate and understand directions.
