Interview Summary
Robert Anderson, a former employee of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi from 1953 to 1955, begins the interview by detailing his career in the Foreign Service. Anderson remembers how he met Cooper. Anderson details his friendship with one of Cooper's former staff members in Washington, D.C. Anderson describes Prime Minister Nehru's foreign policy measures. Anderson lists his primary job responsibilities under Ambassador Cooper at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi. Anderson illustrates Cooper's abilities as an ambassador. Anderson also explains how Cooper came to run for the Senate in 1956. Cooper's interest in India is examined. The interviewee highlights U.S.-Indian relations in the 1950s. Overall foreign policy for the Soviet Union, India, and Non-Alignment Movement countries is explored. Anderson shares his thoughts on interesting descriptions of Ambassador Cooper in the Indian media.
