Interview Summary
Claiborne Pell, a Senator, begins the interview by discussing how he first met John Sherman Cooper. Pell evaluates Cooper's feelings on being appointed by a Democratic administration to a position that assisted in creating the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Pell also details what his first impressions of Cooper were. The interviewee considers what Cooper thought of being in the minority party for most of his career in the Senate. Additionally, Pell describes Cooper's role in the Bobby Baker investigation. Cooper's stance on the Vietnam War is explored.
