Interview Summary

A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Mr. Dunn has been employed by U.K. since 1950 and is the Associate Dean of Admissions. He recalls the African American community's attitude towards U.K. in the 1960s and 1970s, the program begun in 1968 to prepare incoming African American students for academic life, the first demonstrations at the Student Union in 1967, and white reaction to Martin Luther King's assassination. He discusses the University administration's attitude towards the African American community, the burning of the ROTC building, Theodore Berry, and the lack of violence exhibited by African American students during the civil rights movement.
