Interview Summary

Prichard describes Kentucky in the 1920s and 1930s, noting that these decades were a time of great change for the state not only because of economic shifts but also because its largely Southern and Confederate culture was being superseded. He describes state politics during this time, focusing on the political battles involving a political faction known as the bipartisan combine. After explaining the decline of this faction, he describes the rise and success of Governor Happy Chandler as well as the effects of President Roosevelt's New Deal programs on Kentucky.
