Interview with Pearl W. Davis, August 21, 1986
Project: Appalachia: Immigrants in the Coal Fields Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Pearl Davis discusses a few of the changes that have occurred in the mining industry since the 1930s, and about several immigrant miners he knew and worked with. He also discusses in detail the process of making moonshine whiskey and evading federal revenue agents. Davis also talks about Zeb Nugent, a legendary figure in that part of eastern Kentucky. Nugent was known as an expert marksman with a pistol, and he always had plenty of money but no one knew what he did for a living. People speculated that he was either an outlaw or a bounty hunter.Interview Accession
