Interview Summary
Mel "Chief" Harder is from Nebraska. He was a right-handed pitcher and coach in the Major League Baseball, and spent his entire career with the Cleveland Indians. In this interview, he discusses topics such as his baseball career during World War II, team owners, managers, and players he knew while he was a player, the player pension plan, arm injuries that he sustained as a pitcher, Bill Veeck's purchase of the Cleveland Indians, Larry Doby's signing to the Indians, the 1948 season and World Series, Satchel Paige's pitching style, and some of the changes in baseball since he was playing.Interview Accession
