Interview Summary

Scott begins the interview by recalling his first memories of John Sherman Cooper. Scott remembers Cooper being defeated by Everett Dirksen in a bid for Senate Minority Leader. Scott believes Cooper would have done well in that position. Cooper's stance on party politics is explored. The interviewee discusses Cooper's views on civil rights and anti-ballistic missiles. John Sherman Cooper was a leader in the Senate with regard to opposition to Vietnam because his views were widely reported and well-respected among other senators. Scott also mentions Cooper's positions on foreign aid and compliments his integrity and incorruptibility.
