Interview Summary

Jon Gleiforst was raised in Southern California. His mother talked with him about diversity and multi-culturism. He received a degree in International Relations and Latin America studies at UCLA. Jon was assigned to the Dominican Republic in the community development sector. He trained at Camp Crozier in Dos Bocas, Puerto Rico - an outward-bound training design with physical fitness/survival as well as language, technical, and cross-cultural elements. Jon was assigned to the province of Azua in the town of Sabana Yegua (population 2,000) and Bohechio. Jon integrated well into the community befriending neighbors and those he worked. He did not take any vacation. Jon helped the local school teaching English and geography. He helped build small ovens as a community economic development activity. He also secured a grant for a school floor and roof as well as home improvement projects. He learned to be patient with the speed of change!
