Interview Summary
Penny and Richard Sisto were interviewed at their southern Indiana home. As a friend to Merton, Richard describes their talks about Zen practice and jazz. Richard is an accomplished and acclaimed vibes player and a teacher of Zen. Penny is a very gifted artist whose medium is primarily fabrics. She has made many quilts that tell aspects of the Merton story. Richard Sisto discusses Merton's trip to Asia, and his reaction to Merton's death. Penny Sisto talks about the influence of Merton on her own life, the role of mystics in the world, and how her influences affect her art.Interview Accession
