Kentucky History: McDonald Family Oral History Project

Project Summary

Interviewee Harriet McDonald Holladay, who was born in Beechmont, Kentucky in 1907, talks about her life growing up, including her home, family, and religion. She also discusses her education at Hamilton Preparatory School, Mt. Brilliant, and Margaret Hall. In 1920, the family moved to Lexington, and Harriet describes the year she spent at UK, as well as her time at the Art Institute of Chicago. Other topics include her marriage, job at Ashland, and time visiting relatives in England. Harriet also talks a great deal about her family history, specifically what she has learned from old family letters about her ancestors' dispositions, marriages, families, and careers. She has donated these letters to the University of Kentucky.
