Interview with Tim Resch, February 1, 2022
Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Tim Resch served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, from 1970 to 1974, in the Environmental (Forestry) Program. Tim was very involved as a youth in the Boy Scouts of America, which led him to study forestry at the University of Minnesota. He was recruited under the Peace Corps’ New Directions focus, which called for recruitment of volunteers with stronger technical expertise. His training began while in college, and after graduation, continued in Morrison, Colorado, and in Morocco. Training included both French and Arabic languages. Tim was assigned to Ouezzane, in northern Morocco, working for the National Forest Research Station at the Izarene Arboretum. He later extended his service, moved to Rabat, and worked in the development of a Wildland Weather Station Network. Tim discusses his motivations for joining Peace Corps; Vietnam-era draft; training; projects in Morocco; and Peace Corps’ influence on his life and career. Tim went on to work internationally with USAID. He is a founding member and current president of Friends of Morocco.Interview Accession
