Interview SummaryConner discusses working with Merton over the years. He describes how Merton acted as a teacher and what he sought to convey to the novices. He discusses some of the spiritual practices of entering the monastery, including the transformation to break down the ego. Conner discusses Merton's relationship with Dom James and how they would sometimes clash ideologically, but that Dom James respected Merton. He also describes how the current monastery owes features to both Dom James and Merton. Conner also describes how Merton worked within the restrictions placed on monks.
