Interview Summary
This interview covers Rev. Anderson Porter’s childhood and young adulthood, his work in ministry and civil rights, and his experiences during the Vietnam War era. Porter was born on September 14, 1930 in Bristol, Virginia. He graduated from Lincoln University with a BA and MDiv. Porter has worked in ministry since 1960, serving as a pastor for multiple churches located in Philadelphia and West Chester, Pennsylvania. He also was an activist for the Civil Rights Movement and an advocate for the black community, serving as chairman for both the local NAACP during the 1960’s and the Chester County division for the March on Washington. Today, Porter serves as a Parish Associate at First Presbyterian Church of West Chester.Interview Accession
