Interview Summary

Ernie Harwell, from Georgia, was a play-by-play sportscaster on radio and television for 55 years. In this interview, he talks about subjects such as the early days of radio and television and the effect broadcasting had on baseball, broadcasting for the Atlanta Crackers, Branch Rickey, his being traded to the Brooklyn Dodgers as a sportscaster, Jackie Robinson, the desegregation of baseball, broadcasting for the New York Giants, the Giants' winning the 1951 World Series, Major League team owners he knew, and some of the changes in baseball since the late 1940s.
