Interview Summary

O'Connor reflects upon her friendship with Robert Penn Warren, which began while the two worked at Louisiana State University. The friends were later reunited at the University of Minnesota, and subsequently became more well-acquainted at this juncture. Warren's family life, including his relationships with his children and father are described, along with the impact this has on his writing. Warren's marriages are examined, as well as his theological leanings. Warren's complicated friendship with Eric Bentley is also mentioned. The professional life of Warren is discussed, including his interactions with the various university administrations he worked for. Lastly, the parties that Warren gave are explored, including the types of people who attended, and the specific details of the gatherings; coupled with a short description of both Warren's literature and home in Louisiana.
